STEEL STRENGTHENING OF ASPHALT CONCRETE ON M-4 DON

Today, large-scale repair work continues on the 30-kilometer stretch of the M-4 Don federal highway in the bypass area of the Tarasovsky settlement.

Every year, the intensity of passenger and freight vehicles on federal highways increases and the quality of repairs with the use of steel mesh reinforcement technology in some of its sections will extend the maintenance-free life of asphalt concrete.

Any asphalt pavement in the process of constant operation experiences significant tensile and bending stresses. As a result of this, numerous cracks, potholes appear, a track from the wheels and other deformations are formed, up to the complete destruction of the pavement.

The specialists of the Donaerodorstroy company, in places of severe destruction of the reconstructed section of the road, reinforced the road structure by reinforcing asphalt concrete with steel grids using the SADEMS technology.

The main advantage of using this technology compared to other similar approaches is the special structure of the steel mesh, which ensures its high strength and uniform distribution of loads on the road.

Similar work was carried out on kilometers 883, 884 and 885 of the federal highway "Don".

At the first stage, the road workers cleared the milled surface from contamination, after that they laid a metal mesh and fixed it to the base of the road. Next, an improved road structure was poured with an emulsion-mineral mixture “Slarry Seal”.

The emulsion mixture of the Slarry Force type consists of 90% of screening crushing stone materials, 1-1.5% cement, 12% modified bitumen emulsion and additional possible regulators.

The result of such repairs will undoubtedly be an improvement in the quality of the road surface, which means that the safety of high-speed traffic on the updated section of the route will increase.
