The specialists of JSC «Donaerodorstroy» have completed the construction of the facility named «Construction and reconstruction of the M-21 Highway Volgograd — Kamensk Shakhtinsky to the border with Ukraine. Reconstruction of the A-260 Highway Volgograd — Kamensk-Shakhtinsky — the border with Ukraine on the section of km 330+000 — km 343+000, the Rostov region.»

The construction was carried out by order of the Federal state institution Uprdor «Azov» (Rosavtodor) from October 2014 till October 2017.

Before the reconstruction this section A-260 (before 2017 — M-21) running within the administrative boundaries of Krasnosulinsky and Kamensky districts of the Rostov region meets to the norms of the III technical category, and had two traffic lanes.

Those who use the highway regularly remember how the road looked before the arrival of the builders: hollow spots, cracks, wheel tracking, oversized roadsides relative to the roadway, the lack of smoothness of the longitudinal profile. All this made the movement of vehicles difficult and, therefore, put brakes on social-economic development of the region.

Before starting works archaeological surveys and excavations were carried out.

As the result the scientist discovered the houses of worship being of the same age with Egyptiac civilization. They date from the 1500s before Christ. Ancient artefacts found at the facility were transferred to the museum staff of the Don.

For three years the road builders widened the highway from 2 to 4 traffic lanes, reconstructed pipe culverts, built two new pear-shaped interchanges in one level, built a viaduct for agricultural vehicles to drive, set up new road signs, barrier railings, including axial cable ones, along the full length of the section, that eliminates the risk of head-on collisions.

The works were carried out with a wide application of advanced technologies that will significantly improve the road safety and environmental compliance.

The builders introduced such innovations as composite trench drains, metal culverts with a polymeric shell on either side, cable metal railings, stone mastic asphalt; cold deep in-place recycling technology was applied.
The efforts of the road builders allowed the speed on the reconstruction facility to be increased up to 120 kilometers per hour; traffic intensity is 6 thousand units per day.

And generally the section of A-260 launched in the Rostov region became capable of meeting the most modern requirements.

It is timely, as the Federal Highway «Volgograd — Kamensk-Shakhtinsky — the border with Ukraine» is of key importance in the framework of East-West Transport Corridor, being a part of the shortest land route from Asia to Europe, and its significance is growing steadily.

Besides, a qualitative renewal of the highway is especially important on the eve of the World Football Championship 2018, as it one of the most important highways connecting the cities hosting the championship of the world — Volgograd and Rostov-on-Don.

The length of the highway is 361.5 km.

The construction of the road was started 50 years ago, in 1968 the first kilometers with hard covering — 20 km of section Likhaya — Volgograd and 10 km of section Likhaya — Belaya Kalitva — were put in commission.

The plan of «Rosavtodor» in the immediate future is to make all highway running from the border with Ukraine through Russian Donetsk, Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Belaya Kalitva, Kalach-na-Donu and to Volgograd, four-lane.
