The Joint Stock Company “Donaerodorstroy”, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of its establishment in 2016, started constructing a general-purpose highway of regional significance, Approach Road to the Platov Airport – one of the key infrastructure facilities built as part of preparations to the FIFA World Cup, which Rostov-on-Don will host in 2018.
The approach road to the Platov Airport is designed to connect the general-purpose highway of regional significance, Don Highway – Shchepkin settlement – Rostov-on-Don, in the Aksay District with the passenger terminal of the Platov Airport. The facility is part of the State Program of the Rostov Region, Transport System Development.
The road will be 15.9 km long. It will be a two-lane road 8.5 m wide, and near the airport it will have four lanes. Roadbuilders will have to construct six crossovers, with a total length of 280 meters of track, and three bridges, with a total length of 353 meters of track. Currently, employees of the “Donaerodorstroy” Company are excavating the topsoil layer (81,354 cubic meters have already been taken out) and making the earth roadbed (the amount of earth works has reached 188,193 cubic meters).
Over two dozens of machines – earth moving machines, bulldozers, motorized road graders, road rollers and dumpers work day and night at the construction site. Upon its completion, beside its direct function, this route will ensure transregional connections between the North and the South and interregional connections between the northern districts of the Rostov region and Taganrog and Azov.
Moreover, the road will serve as an entry to the northern part of Rostov-on-Don, making it possible to more rationally distribute traffic flows not only for connections of the Platov Air Terminal, but also for connections of the service area on the whole. Apart from it, the road will ensure comfortable and safe transport traffic, facilitate development of this area and establishment of logistic and infrastructural facilities.
